á           President Donald Trump announced via Twitter that Herman Cain has asked Trump not to nominate him to a seat on the Federal Reserve Board. Cain had been accused of sexual harassment when he was chief executive of the National Restaurant Association.

á           Trump on Monday filed a lawsuit against House Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings to block a subpoena of the president's financial records from an accounting firm.

á           Supreme Court justices announced they will consider two cases in which federal appeals courts split over whether gay and lesbian employees are protected by the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

á           A federal appeals court turned down former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea ManningŐs bid to overturn a contempt order that led to her jailing for refusing to answer questions from a grand jury investigating WikiLeaks. The court also turned down her bid to be released on bail.

á           The Washington Post reported that on Saturday, the FBI arrested Larry Mitchell Hopkins, 69, leader of an armed militia that was seen in a video to be holding a group of migrants against their will.

á           The Democratic chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Jerrold Nadler, issued a subpoena ordering former White House counsel Donald McGahn to testify before the panel next month and hand over documents and records pertaining to federal investigations of Trump, his finances, his campaign and charges that he sought to obstruct justice.

á           House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in a conference call, told lawmakers there are no plans to immediately open impeachment proceedings against Trump, stressing a near-term strategy of focusing on investigating the president and seeing where those inquiries lead.

á           Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the U.S. will start imposing sanctions on several countries, including U.S. allies, unless they stop buying oil from Iran after temporary waivers expire in May.

Tuesday, April 23

á           White House Cabinet Secretary Bill McGinley announced that all Trump administration officials are being ordered to boycott the White House Correspondents Association dinner this weekend.

á           Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced he is naming a town in the Golan Heights after Trump.

á           The House Oversight Committee moved to hold former White House personnel security director, Carl Kline, in contempt of Congress for failing to appear, upon instruction from the White House, at a hearing investigating alleged lapses in White House security clearance procedures.

á           The Interior DepartmentŐs Office of Inspector General has opened an investigation into whether six of TrumpŐs appointees to that department have violated federal ethics rules by engaging with their former employers or clients on department-related business. The new investigation comes a week after the inspector general's office launched a probe of its new secretary, David Bernhardt.

á           In an interview with the Washington Post, Trump said he is opposed to current and former White House aides testifying before Congress in the wake of the special counselŐs report.

Wednesday, April 24

á           The Justice Department informed the House Oversight Committee that it will not comply with a subpoena demanding the appearance of an official as part of that CommitteeŐs investigation of the addition of a citizenship question on the upcoming 2020 census.

á           Cesar Sayoc, the Florida man who pleaded guilty to mailing explosive devices to CNN and various Democratic officials and donors, said in a letter to a federal judge that attending a Trump rally Ňbecame like a new found drug,Ó and that he was also abusing steroids.

á           Trump said he would go to the U.S. Supreme Court if the House impeaches him.

Thursday, April 25

á           The Defense Department Office of Inspector General has concluded that evidence doesn't show that acting Defense Secretary Pat Shanahan sought preferential treatment for his longtime former employer, Boeing Co., while serving in government.

á           A federal grand jury in Boston indicted a Newton District Court judge and a now-retired state court officer on obstruction of justice charges for allegedly helping an undocumented immigrant evade a federal agent who had appeared at the courthouse to detain him last year.

Friday, April 26

á           Russian agent Maria Butina was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for acting as a foreign agent without properly reporting it.

á           The Washington Post reported that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, in trouble with Trump after a September New York Times report said he had suggested wearing a wire to surreptitiously record Trump, assured the president that he would make sure Trump was treated fairly by the special counsel.

á           Trump renewed his vow to repeal the Affordable Care Act at a National Rifle Association conference.

Saturday, April 27

á           House Oversight Committee Chair Elijah Cummings wrote to Carl Kline, former White House personnel security director, saying he was holding off on finding Kline in contempt for failing to respond to a subpoena, and agreeing to interview Kline on May 1 with a White House attorney present.

á           Trump began a political rally in Wisconsin with a condemnation of anti-Semitism and hate crimes after a fatal shooting at a synagogue in San Diego.

á           A senior Democratic committee aide said Democrats and the Justice Department are in a standoff over the terms of Attorney General William P. BarrŐs planned testimony before the House Judiciary Committee this week, and added that Barr may be subpoenaed if he refuses to testify.
