á        President Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe disagreed on North Koreas recent missile tests during a joint news conference. Abe views the missile tests a violation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution while Trump claimed that he was not concerned by the tests and did not see them to be a violation.

Tuesday, May 28

á           The first opioid trial in the country began in Norman, Oklahoma against Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson.

Wednesday, May 29

á           Special Counsel Robert Mueller made his first public remarks since the conclusion of the investigation saying that his office was not able to clear the president, nor were they able to accuse him, stating that if they "had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime we would have said so."

á           The Trump administration appealed an order made by a federal judge halting a $1 billion transfer of Pentagon funding to aid the expansion of the border wall. The administration requested that construction of the wall continue while the appeal takes place.

á           National security advisor John Bolton traveled to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates to Òdiscuss important and timely regional security matters.Ó This meeting takes place as tensions rise on the Persian Gulf. 

Thursday, May 30

á           House Oversight Committee accused the Trump administration  of obstructing its investigation into the Education Department. Chairman Elijah Cummings stated that the Education Department Òis obstructing our investigation and appears to be part of an unprecedented cover-up by the Trump administration...Ó in response to the departments refusal to turn over documents pertaining to the administrations controversial efforts to replace the departmentÕs acting inspector general, Sandra Bruce.

á           A third House Republican, Rep. John Rose of Tennesee voted against the passage of a $19.1 billion disaster aid package following Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, who voted against the aid package earlier this week. Rose and Massie argued that the aid package should not be passed without President TrumpÕs $4.5 billion request for extra border security. The dissenting votes mean that the package now requires a roll call vote before it can advance which will not take place until the house returns from its 10-day Memorial Day recess.

á           President Donald Trump announced tariffs on all goods from Mexico starting at 5 percent. Tariffs come in response to the tide of illegal immigration over the U.S. Mexico border. Trump stated that "the Tariff will gradually increase until the illegal immigration problem is remedied..." to a maximum of 25 percent.

Friday, May 31

á           The Democratic party launches efforts to rally voters in seven swing states with the support of a super PAC devoted to grassroots Democratic turnout. The PAC announced that the new campaign director is Ashley Walker, Florida campaign chair for former President Barack Obama and that its budget is $80 million to $90 million.

á           A Missouri judge temporarily blocks the closure of a Planned Parenthood facility in St. Louis that is the only abortion provider in the state. The Planned Parenthood clinics license was set to expire at the end of the day and they would have been forced to close and address the claims made against them by the Missouri Governor and state health officials before being able to renew their license and reopen. Planned Parenthood claims the accusations are unfounded and are being brought against them to further limit access to abortion in the state.

á           President Trump announced that the White Houses lead lawyer, Emmet Flood, will leave his position on June 14.

Sunday, June 2

á           The Justice Department announced it will not charge Wikileaks founder Julian Assange for his involvement in the CIA leak that revealed some of its secret spying tools.
