á           A federal judge blocked the Trump administration from implementing part of its plan to lower drug prices. The blocked regulation would have required prescription drug prices to be disclosed in TV ads.

á           The American Lung Association and the American Public Health Association filed suit against the Environmental Protection Agency for its repeal of the Obama administrationÕs Clean Power Plan.

Tuesday, July 9

á           The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that, under the First Amendment, President Donald Trump cannot block users on Twitter from his official account.

Wednesday, July 10

á           Trump signed an executive order directing the Department of Health and Human Services to develop policies to reduce the number of patients developing kidney failure, reduce how many Americans get dialysis treatment at dialysis centers and make more kidneys available for transplant.

á           Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass) reintroduced the Climate Risk Disclosure Act that would require the Securities and Exchange Commission to issue rules mandating that companies disclose their greenhouse gas emissions, fossil fuel assets, and how they plan to address risks related to the climate crisis. The bill is not expected to pass the Senate.

á           Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed increasing sanctions on Iran.

á           U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer announced that it is conducting an investigation into the FranceÕs tax on technology companies, on the grounds that it could have a disproportionate impact on American tech companies.

Thursday, July 11

á           Trump instructed the government to compile citizenship data from existing federal records, signaling the end of his fight to place a question about citizenship on the 2020 census.

á           The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals denied emergency motions to block the Trump administrations enforcement of the Ògag ruleÓ on abortion referrals, allowing the administration to enforce the rule while the court hears the lawsuit against it on the merits.

Friday, July 12

á           The House passed the $733 billion National Defense Authorization Act along party lines with Republicans uniting in opposition. The defense bill would limit President TrumpÕs ability to start a war with Iran and Yemen, restrict the use of military funds at the southwest border, and allow transgender troops to return to military service.

á           Trump announced the resignation of Labor Secretary R. Alexander Acosta, following criticisms of AcostaÕs handling of Jeffery EpsteinÕs 2008 sex crimes case while Acosta was a federal prosecutor in Florida.

á           The House passed a bipartisan bill authorizing $10.2 billion for the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, which provides financial support to compensate emergency workers who have become sick with cancer and other illnesses as a result of their work in the ruins of the World Trade Center.

á           Trump announced that he disagrees with Commerce Secretary Wilbur RossÕ findings that foreign uranium imports pose a threat to national security, stating he believes Òa fuller analysis of national security considerations with respect to the entire nuclear fuel supply chain is necessary at this time.Ó Trump also staid he would not impose quotas on uranium imports.

á           The House Oversight and Reform Committee released a report on the southwest U.S. border that revealed at least 18 infants and toddlers younger than two years old were separated from their parents for at least 20 days because of President TrumpÕs Òzero toleranceÓ policy. The report also said at least 2,648 children have been separated from their families, some for as long as six months.

á           House Democrats announced that they have postponed two hearings with former special counsel Robert S. Mueller until July 24.

Sunday, July 14

á           The Trump administrationÕs promised ICE deportation raids began in major cities, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Ken Cuccinelli refused to answer questions on whether children in these raids would be separated from their parents.
