á           President Donald Trump hinted that he would fire Dr. Anthony Fauci, the United StatesÕ top infectious diseases expert who has been a guiding voice throughout the pandemic, after Election Day.

á           Officials said the Treasury Department expects to need to borrow $617 billion in the final three months of 2020 to cover record budget deficits.

á           Dr. Deborah Birx, the Trump administrationÕs coronavirus response coordinator, sent a private memo to White House officials warning that the nation is about to enter Òthe most deadly phaseÓ of the pandemic.

Tuesday, Nov. 3

á           Election Day. Whether incumbent Trump or Democratic challenger Joe Biden won the presidential election remained undecided, with key battleground states still undecided.

á           A Marshals Service spokesperson told Politico that Education Secretary Betsy DeVosÕ security detail has cost taxpayers over $24 million since her tenure began and will cost another $3 million through mid-February. That level of security is unusual for the post and most past education secretaries have used the departmentÕs own small security force.

á           The Trump administration put on hold an effort to blacklist Ant Group, a Chinese financial technology company, with insiders citing fears of antagonizing Wall Street before the presidential election and the possibility of a lawsuit as reasons for stepping back.

á           The Department of Homeland Security disclosed that FBI investigators are looking into a robocall campaign targeting voters to tell them to stay home and not vote.

á           A federal judge in Texas ruled that 127,000 votes that were already cast at voting sites near Houston would be counted after Republicans tried to disqualify them.

Wednesday, Nov. 4

á           Trump falsely claimed he won the 2020 presidential election in a defiant speech at 2 a.m.

á           TrumpÕs reelection campaign threatened to take legal action to try to halt vote-counting in Pennsylvania and Michigan, to seek a recount in Wisconsin and to challenge how ballots were being handled in Georgia, as ballots continued to be counted in BidenÕs favor in those states.

á           The U.S. officially quit the 2015 Paris climate accords, the only country among 197 signatories to do so. The U.S. is the second-largest greenhouse gas emitter on the planet. Biden vowed to rejoin the agreement as soon as he becomes president.

á           The U.S. topped its one-day record for new coronavirus cases with 102,591 cases diagnosed in a single 24-hour period, according to government data.

á           At a press conference following his reelection, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Congress should approve a coronavirus relief package before the end of the year, reversing position from a recent suggestion that more relief wouldnÕt come until next year. ÒHopefully the partisan passions that prevented us from doing another rescue package will subside with the election,Ó McConnell said.

á           Postal Service data showed more than 150,000 ballots, including 12,000 in contested states, were caught in processing facilities and not delivered by Election Day.

Thursday, Nov. 5

á           Following an order from Washington, D.C.Õs, mayor to tighten travel restrictions in the nationÕs capitol, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced plans to expand COVID-19 testing for lawmakers. Both House and Senate leaders have resisted mandatory testing for months.

Friday, Nov. 6

á           White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and other Trump aides tested positive for the coronavirus, just days after gathering unmasked at the White House on Election Day. This marks the third high-profile outbreak at the White House in the past six weeks.

á           Trump held a speech during which several TV news agencies cut their broadcasts due to what they called his spreading misinformation and lies about the election process and voter fraud.

á           The American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement for not responding to a Freedom of Information Act request filed in May for records pertaining to how the agencies handle safety protocols at immigration detention camps during the coronavirus pandemic.

Saturday, Nov. 7

á           Following days waiting for ballots to be counted, media outlets at last called the 2020 presidential election for the Joe Biden/Kamala Harris ticket. This makes Biden the 46th president-elect and Harris the first Black, South Asian and female vice president. Trump refused to concede despite unequivocal numbers against him.

á           The U.S. removed the East Turkestan Islamic Movement from its terrorist list Òbecause, for more than a decade, there has been no credible evidence that ETIM continues to exist,Ó a State Department spokesperson explained. China regularly uses the movement to justify crackdowns in its Muslim-majority Xinjiang region.

Sunday, Nov. 8

á           Biden vowed to end TrumpÕs ÒMuslim ban,Ó which limits travel to and from Muslim-majority countries, as soon as his term begins.
